A Highland man died Tuesday after a one-car accident on U-74 Monday morning.

Killed was:Steven Fairbanks, 19, Highland.

Fairbanks was northbound on U-74 at 2:15 a.m. Monday, said Alpine police detective Kim Collins. Police said Fairbanks' vehicle left the highway on the east side, careening over a sidewalk and fence and coming to rest against a utility pole.

Fairbanks was taken to American Fork Hospital, then transported to LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, where he died about 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Police are still investigating the accident, but they say driver fatigue may have been a factor. The utility pole split Fairbanks' vehicle into two pieces, Collins said.
