The grand opening of R.C. Willey Home Furnishings at 4045 Riverdale Road will be at noon on Wednesday, June 19, according to William H. Child, chairman and chief executive officer.

Located in a former Fred Meyer store, the latest addition to the R.C. Willey chain is a 100,000-square-foot facility that features the regular carpeting and furniture areas plus 20,000 square feet for electronics and appliances.Child said it is the company's first grand opening of a regular store in six years. R.C. Willey has opened a clearance center and a carpet store in the interim.

After remodeling was completed, the new store opened for business on May 27 and did $300,000 worth of business that day, Child said. He attributed the success to customers in Weber and Davis counties who have remained loyal since the original store opened in Syracuse.

In connection with the grand opening, Vanna White, letter-turner on the television game show "Wheel of Fortune " will be in the Riverdale store between 4-8 p.m. on June 26. White is a spokeswoman for Spring Air mattresses, one of R.C. Willey's lines.

Child said the expanded Syracuse store will have a grand opening 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19. This store has 115,000 square feet and 10,000 square feet have been added to the appliance and electronics department so R.C. Willey can better compete with the electronics stores that have opened in Utah in the last few months.

Child said the expanded and remodeled store at 3950 W. 4700 South will have a grand opening Aug. 1. It remains open during construction.
