Brigham Young University's director of scholarships has announced the recipients of the 1996-97 Gordon B. Hinckley Scholarships.
"It's the most prestigious scholarship the university offers," Sue DeMartini said. The scholarship is named after the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the time the scholarship is awarded.The eight-semester scholarship was awarded to 12 males and 12 females selected from 64 finalists and 750 qualified applicants.
The 1996 female recipients are Bonnie M. Ashby, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Jill Davies, North Salt Lake; Emily A. Fisher, West Valley City; Jessica L. Franciose, Woodridge, Ill.; Janna Free, Williamsville, N.Y.; Diana E. Hassell, Andover, Minn.; Michelle J. Hatch, Bountiful; Deborah T. Pettit, Camarillo, Calif.; Rixa A. Spencer, Rochester, Minn.; Suzanne Stradling, Vienna, Va.; Jacquelyn Youd, Spanish Fork; and Jolene E. Yukes, Henderson, Nev.
The 1996 male recipients are Andrew G. Cannon, Provo; Ryan G. Christensen, South Jordan; Ryan T. Gee, Austin, Texas; Paul S. Heaton, Montclair, Va.; Alan P. Hyatt, Tucson, Ariz.; Samuel H. Jarvis, Yuma, Ariz.; Eric D. McArthur, Edmond, Okla.; D. Joshua Miller, Naperville, Ill.; Robert S. Ricks, Provo; Benjamin F. Sturgeon, Mesa, Ariz.; Aaron A. Swenson, Anchorage, Alaska; and David K. Vawdrey, Riverton.
