A 14-month-old boy narrowly escaped death when he was run over by a Chevrolet Suburban Monday.
The boy was in the driveway at his home in southwest Orem Monday at 5:30 p.m. when his aunt began backing the vehicle out, said Orem Police Lt. Karl Hirst.Police say the vehicle's rear bumper knocked the child down and he was caught under the rear tire. The boy's aunt heard him screaming and stopped the vehicle, police say.
Tire marks were found on the toddler's legs, arms and torso. His head was wedged under the tire, but not run over, Hirst said.
The boy was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. Police say the toddler probably would have been killed if the vehicle had backed several more inches.
