Juab County commissioners have agreed to write a letter to the state fire marshal asking that he come look at the Juab County Center auditorium to see what must be done to make it meet code so it can be utilized once again.
Commissioner Ike Lunt said the Juab County Centennial Committee is interested in applying for a grant to restore the auditorium to service."We are definitely still interested in restoring, remodeling, or refurbishing the auditorium," said Commission Chairman Gordon Young. He said the Centennial Committee is still interested in the project. The auditorium would be used for the Juab County Queen contest, for dance reviews, for music programs and for other community attractions of the same ilk.
Young said a grant application has been filed seeking $40,000 to remodel the auditorium. He said the fund would also include $29,000 from various contributors and activities.
Various estimates have placed the remodeling cost at $123,000 to $160,000.
When the old Juab High School main building was remodeled for use as a county center more than 10 years ago, the old high school auditorium on the top floor of the structure was left unfinished, though the walls were earthquake proofed.
Juab High moved into the new school in 1980, and the auditorium there became the center for such activities as Miss Juab County contest. The Centennial Committee would like the auditorium in the county center available for such activities.
