With the help of several dignitaries, 600 employees at the McDonnell Douglas aircraft plant celebrated the 10th anniversary of the plant's ground-breaking Friday.
During that decade, the production of fuselage sections for the MD-80, the MD-90 and major subassemblies for the MD-11 has resulted in a $163 million boost to the Utah economy.In addition, 260 companies have become suppliers and sold nearly $750 million worth of items to the company.
Hosting Friday's event was Michael M. Sears, new president of the Douglas Aircraft Division of McDonnell Douglas, and Al Egbert, plant director. Also participating were Rep. James Hansen, R-Utah; Lt. Gov. Olene Walker, Senate President Lane Beattie, R-West Bountiful; and Bob Hood, Douglas Aircraft president emeritus.
