Nearly 10,000 gallons of water flooded a parking garage adjacent to the Capitol Theatre Saturday afternoon after a delivery truck apparently ran into a 2-inch water line, bursting a pipe that transports water to a sprinkler system.
Crews responded to the garage near 50 W. 200 South just after 1 p.m. and were able to contact the building engineer who shut the water off after about 10 minutes, Salt Lake Fire Capt. Dennis Goudy said. The theater - which currently offering the Broadway production of "Phantom of the Opera" - was not in any danger of flooding, nor were surrounding businesses because drains inside the garage "worked just as they were supposed to," Goudy said.
No one was injured in the incident.
