Maryann Webster, of Salt Lake City, received a Merit Award in the "Feats of Clay IX" sculpture contest with her piece "Guardian Figure." Of the 863 pieces submitted only 72 were selected for exhibition.

- "Keeping Up Appearances," a new antiques, fine furnishings and collectables boutique will hold a benefit sale of Russian children's paintings through July 6 at 4759 S. State. The featured art, from children ages 7-14, comes from Nizny-Novgorad Children's Institute of Art. Proceeds will go to the school for art supplies.- The Mountain Artists' Rendevous, featuring many Salt Lake artists, will be held in Jackson, Wyo., July 12-14 and Aug. 16-18. - The Salt Lake City Public Library is sponsoring a sand painting demonstration by the Utah Tibet Support Group, from June 22-29. Lamas of the Sera Je Monastery will spend the week creating a "Compassionate Buddha" sand painting, constructed by applying grains of colored sand to a flat work surface. Once completed, the painting is ceremoniously destroyed, signifying the impermanence of life. The demonstration will take place on the first floor of the Main Library from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. It is free to the public.

Workshops, lectures and classes

- The Kimball Art Center has invited Ray Pierotti, a native Utahn and internationally known artists, to teach a weeklong workshop introducing his painting techniques from July 8-12, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Enrollment will be limited to 15 students.
