Sybil Fern Goff Hobbs, 78, of Lindon, and a former resident of Southern California, died Saturday, June 22, 1996 at her daughter's home, after a year long and very valiant fight with cancer.

She was born October 9, 1917 in Lewisville, Idaho, a daughter of Wilburn and Isabell Campbell Goff. She married Clarence Hobbs November 19, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died in May of 1969. She survived her husband by 28 years. She received and excelled in her early schooling at Lorenzo, Idaho. She attended Henager College. She loved to learn and believed in continuing her education. She was the oldest graduate of Brigham Young University in 1990 with a degree in genealogy.Fern was a gifted genealogist with a deep love of her work. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served one mission after another including a family history mission. She loved her grandchildren. She was strong willed, a woman of high moral character, valiant in her religious belief.

Survivors include her two sons and her daughter, George H. Hobbs, Newport Beach, Calif.; David L. Hobbs, American Fork; Julia F. Davidson, Lindon, Utah; six grandchildren, Garth Davidson, Payson; Christine Davidson, Scott Davidson, both of Lindon; Garrett Hobbs, Cambria Hobbs, both of American Fork; Jonathan Hobbs, Yorba Linda, Calif.; her brothers and sisters, Grange Goff, Ray Goff, Roland Goff, Ester Kynaston, and Joan Biorn. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine, her husband and parents.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 25, 11 a.m. in the Lindon Stake Center, 1050 East 100 North, Lindon. Friends may call Monday from 8 to 9 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 No., Orem, and Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the stake center. Burial, Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, Calif., Wednesday, June 26 at 3 p.m.
