The City Council and mayor have announced plans to celebrate the city's official creation on July 1.

The council will meet at 7 a.m. July 1 to formally adopt service contracts and other matters approved by the Taylorsville-Bennion Transition Corporation, which passed the city's $9 million budget last Wednesday.Mayor LaVelle Prince said he will present the city's articles of incorporation to the lieutenant governor's office following the council meeting.

An evening program at Salt Lake Community College will highlight the history of the Taylorsville area from pioneer days to the present. Birthday cake for the city will be served prior to the event, which will be held in the college amphitheater.

Prince said the city will hold an open house beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday at city offices at 2520 W. 4700 South.
