The president of the Stansbury Park Community Association and a recent college graduate will compete for the District 3 seat on the Tooele Board of Education in November.

Shawna Kendell, 35, an eight-year member of the Stansbury Park Community Association, garnered 44 percent of the vote in a four-way primary race Tuesday, according to complete but unofficial results. Daniel Pacheco, 33, a recent graduate of Westminster College, qualified to face Kendell in the general election with a second-place finish in the primary. He had 34 percent of the vote.Jody Vickery and Mark Wilson were a distant third and fourth, respectively. Gene White, the current District 3 representative, did not seek re-election.

"I'm excited," Kendell said. "It's going to be a real tight race with Dan."

The largest voter turnout was recorded in the Stansbury Park precinct where Kendell resides.

"She's in a leadership position in that area, but I'm very confident with the numbers that came through," Pacheco said. "I think one of the big things that the people liked is that I'm a native. I was born and raised here and attended all the schools."
