The College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Utah State University capped a year of festivities celebrating the college's 25th anniversary with a recent awards presentation.

The college - the largest at USU - includes 13 departments, offers 1,158 courses, and has 4,500 student majors.Gregory M. Bair was named the college's top scholar and valedictorian at the awards and recognition ceremony. The son of Ted M. and Patricia Bair of North Logan, Gregory has earned degrees in dual majors, liberal arts and sciences and philosophy, and graduates with a 4.0 GPA.

The college inducted several individuals into the Friends of HASS Society. This group includes those who have "contributed significantly to college programs or departments." Inducted this year were Alta Stevens Fife, Jay W. Glasmann, Peter "Joe" and Mary Lacey, Mel Melcomian, and Edith and Floyd Thomas Morgan.

Outstanding faculty members for 1996 were also recognized. Shawn E. Fullmer, graduate teaching assistant in the English department, was named Teaching Assistant of the Year. Carolyn Rhodes, department of political science, is Researcher of the Year. Creative Artist of the Year is Willard R.

Kesling, Jr., from the music department. Humanist of the Year is Bishnu Ghosh, assistant professor of English. Todd Fallis, music department, is Adviser of the Year.

Teachers of the Year in the college's three divisions were named. Fine Arts Teacher of the Year is Craig Johnson, department of landscape architecture and environmental planning. James R.Rogers, faculty member of the Intensive English Language Institute is the Humanities Division Teacher of the Year, and Peter McNamara, department of political science, is the social sciences division Teacher of the Year.
