Wm. James Mortimer, president and publisher of the Deseret News, will speak at the Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce Friday Forum, at noon, July 12, at the Provo Park Hotel.
Mortimer will speak on the Deseret News, trends in the newspaper business and the future of the news industry. Prior to his current position, he served as director of the Printing Services Division of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has also served as the general manager of Deseret Book Co. and vice president and general manager of Deseret Press.Active in civic and service groups, Mortimer is a former chairman of the board of governors of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the boards of the Utah Symphony, Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau, Citizens for Positive Community Values and Junior Achievement. He is past president of the Utah Press Association, chairman of the Utah Partnership for Educational and Economic Development and active with the United Way.
He serves on the boards of the Inter American Press Association and Newspaper Agency Corp.
