To help commemorate Utah's centennial, small bronze sculptures by a prominent artist, the late Mahonri M. Young, will be exhibited at Chapman Branch Library beginning Monday, July 1, and continuing through Thursday, Oct. 31.
A slide presentation with commentary by Tom Toone, Utah State University art history professor, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the library, 577 S. 900 West, said Lori Arnall, a librarian at Chapman branch and curator for the exhibit. "Mahonri Young, His Life and Art," a book by Toone, is scheduled to be published by Signature Books this fall.Young was one of Utah's most prominent artists of the first half of the 20th century. His works include This is The Place and Seagull monuments.
Exhibit sculptures are on loan from the Museum of Art at Brig-ham Young University, the Utah state art collection of the Utah Arts Council, the permanent collection of the Utah Museum of Fine Arts at the University of Utah and the permanent art collection of the Salt Lake City Public Li-brary.
