James N. Jardine of the University of Utah won 10th place and a $500 scholarship in the 36th annual William Randolph Hearst Foundation's Journalism Awards program.
He was among 20 winners in college personality/profile writing.Lori Lessner, a senior at Northwestern University, won first place and a $2,000 scholarship for an article that profiles the life of a young man in a gang.
The awards program is conducted under the auspices of accredited schools of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication and fully funded and administered by the foundation.
