Marine Corps Reservists of the 23rd Marine Regiment from Fort Douglas took first place in the Super Squad competition, testing squads' military knowledge and tactical ability.

The competition, held at Fort Hood, Texas, from April 26-28, required squads to conduct a series of tactical maneuvers, exhibit proficiency in land navigation, communications, ability to call air strikes, and other skills and take a practical examination. The Utah squad, led by Sgt. Michael Schoenfeld, had trained for two months in preparation for the competition and now has to prepare for a head-to-head competition in Camp Lejeune, N.C., with squads representing the Fourth Marine Division. If they win the competition in North Carolina, they will officially be recognized as the best Reserve Infantry Squad in the nation.

Schoenfeld was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal for his leadership of the squad and victory at the regimental competition.
