The ugliest side of Dallas' feast-or-famine offense showed up Saturday as the Burn failed in what some players had acknowledged was the team's most significant game to date.
Kansas City, the worst road team in the league, beat the Burn, 1-0, before 9,615 at the Cotton Bowl. Mike Sorber's 22-yard blast in the 39th minute was enough to give Kansas City its first road win in regulation time. The Wiz (8-9) was the only team in the league before Saturday without a road win in regulation time. The Burn had more bad news: Forward Hugo Sanchez left at halftime after taking a first-half knee in the back from defender Samuel Ekeme. Burn coach Dave Dir said Sanchez has a "basketball-size welt" on his back and termed the Mexican veteran as questionable for Thursday's home game.
After getting shut out for the fifth time in nine home games, the Burn limped past the season's halfway point with a 9-7 record and 21 points in the standings.
