Crews hoped to contain the Pole Creek fire near Beaver late Saturday - ending almost two weeks of intense firefighting in Utah mountain and rangelands.
The lightning-sparked Pole Creek fire has blackened nearly 7,000 acres of forest in 11 days along the east slope of Beaver Mountain.Meanwhile, firefighters have contained large blazes in Tooele, Utah and San Juan counties and plan to spend Sunday mopping up, dousing hot spots and relaxing.
"It's a good time for the firefighters to get some rest, clean and repair their equipment and get back on a regular eating schedule," said Salt Lake Interagency Fire Center spokesman Glenn Foreman.
The Little Sahara fire burned 48,000 acres in the western desert before being contained Friday. Still, officials plan to open the Little Sahara Recreation area on Monday.
Crews also contained the Soldier Pass fire Friday that burned 7,600 acres in Utah County.
The Davis fire in Monticello charred 200 acres before being contained Friday.
