City officials will welcome representatives from the city of Sandy, England, next week.

Mayor Tom Dolan, the City Council and members of the Sandy Rotary Club will hold a reception Monday at 11:30 a.m. to greet members of Shannon Express, a barbershop-style singing group that includes many residents of Sandy, England. The group is here to compete in an international choir competition."We've had an association with some of these folks through our Rotary Club for a few years now," Dolan said. "We're excited to have them here and renew this friendship that our two cities share."

Sandy, England is about 50 miles south of London. The name of the group was taken from a rail locomotive, built in 1857 to haul produce from Sandy and nearby Potton. The singing group was formed in 1978.
