Gorgeous is having a party - her 47th - today at Hogle Zoo. And the public is invited.
The female western lowland gorilla, the oldest gorilla in captivity according to the International Species Inventory System (ISIS), will be the center of attention in the Great Apes Building.ISIS tracks animal information for zoos and aquariums, said Gary Tingey, Hogle Zoo promotions coordinator.
Gorgeous will receive a specially designed cake that includes crushed pineapple, carrots, raisins, pears, cherry tomatoes and nonfat dairy whip. Zoo visitors will be able to sign a birthday card for Gorgeous and sing "Happy Birthday."
