A 36-year-old Delta physician was found dead in the bed of his pickup truck in a remote area of Millard County with a bullet wound in the upper chest.
Sheriff Ed Phillips said authorities are leaning toward the possibility that Dr. Robert F. Monsen died from an accidental shooting, though foul play and suicide have not been ruled out.Sgt. Chuck Stewart said a rifle fired recently was found 18 inches from the body.
A Bureau of Land Management worker discovered the body Tuesday morning on a gravel road about 40 miles west of Delta.
The body was sent to the state medical examiner in Salt Lake City for an autopsy.
Phillips said Monsen probably died Monday night or early Tuesday.
Monsen was a staff doctor at the Delta Community Medical Center.
