A homeless man approached a Salt Lake woman and asked her to go to a party last weekend, then sexually abused her after she refused his offer, prosecutors say.

Charges filed in 3rd Circuit Court state the man, 23, asked the woman for a cigarette as she was entering her apartment July 7. He then invited her to a party but she refused.The man would not leave the woman alone and offered her a gold chain or cocaine if she would go with him, charges state. As the victim went to a nearby apartment for help, the man kicked her, pushed her down and put his hand up her dress, committing a lewd act, according to prosecutors.

The woman screamed, hit the man and ran toward the apartment. But the man caught up to her, pushed her down again and put his hand up her dress, repeating the act, charges say.

The man fled when a neighbor came and called police.

He is in the Salt Lake County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
