Dancers and musicians from 12 countries will combine their talent for the World Folkfest, beginning Saturday, July 13.

Billed as one of the largest folk festivals in the country, the Springville World Folkfest, now in its 11th year, will host troupes from Thailand, the Philippines, Romania, Italy, Scotland, Switzerland, Croatia, Macedonia, the Czech Republic, China, India and three troupes from the United States.The festival will open with a traditional parade down Springville's Main Street at 5 p.m., July 13, followed by the first of six performances at 8 p.m. All performances will be at the Spring Acres Arts Park amphitheater (behind Springville High School) at 620 S. 1350 East.

Other performances will be held at 8 p.m. July 15, 16, 18, 19 and 20. On Wednesday, July 17, the groups will participate in a festival street dance and party at the Springville Museum of Art parking lot, 100 E. 400 South. The party is free and open to the public.

More than 300 performers and support personnel will be housed in homes throughout Springville and Mapleton. One of the beneficial aspects of the festival is the opportunity it gives international visitors to see, firsthand, American customs and family life.

Festival tickets are $7 each, with Senior Citizen tickets for $6 and children 12 and under $3. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or bought in advance by calling 489-2700.
