Government action
Alpine
In its July 9 meeting, the City Council:
- Approved the plat map for Main Street Village, a commercial project on Main Street at the city's entrance. The approval included a variance from the city's three-acre requirement for such projects. The project and its heavy landscaping will give the city's entrance a new, beautified look, the council said.
- Discussed the extension of Alpine Boulevard to the site of a new stake center for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The church has agreed to build a half-width street to the site, but the council said it prefers a full-width street. Landowners along the way would reimburse the church when they develop. The council swapped city land to enlarge the church's parking lot for the street.
- Was informed by Councilman Sheldon Wimmer that the city has nearly reached its bonding limit.
- Considered but reached no conclusion on naming a replacement for planning commissioner Kathryn Chatfield, who resigned. The council is looking for names from the city's northwest side.
- Agreed to advertise for a city manager.
