Ed Cunningham got caught in a revolving door.

The free-agent center signed with Chicago after playing for three years with the Arizona Cardinals. He was obtained when the Bears were not sure if they could re-sign Jerry Fontenot.However, Fontenot agreed to a one-year contract on Wednesday, and Cunningham was released.

The Bengals, meanwhile, claimed quarterback Dave Barr off waivers. The second-year pro from California had been waived by the Kansas City Chiefs.

All-Pro offensive guard Nate Newton has signed a one-year contract extension with Dallas and will be under contract with the Cowboys through the 1998 season. Terms of the extension were not released.

The New Orleans Saints reached agreement with safety Sean Lumpkin on a one-year deal. Lumpkin is recovering from ligament surgery and will not pass the physical, but is expected to play this year.

The Seattle Seahawks signed two of their 1996 draft choices: third-rounder Reggie Brown, a fullback from Fresno State; and seventh-rounder Johnie Church, a defensive end from Florida.
