Giovanni Savarese scored two second-half goals Wednesday to lift the New York-New Jersey MetroStars to a 3-2 Major League Soccer victory over the Dallas Burn.

Savarese, the league's No. 2 scorer, snapped a 2-2 tie in the 77th minute, sliding past Dallas' Leonel Alvarez and guiding Tab Ramos' crossing pass into the net for his 12th goal of the season.Ramos set up the goal by carrying the ball down the left side and deep into the box, freezing Dallas goalkeeper Mark Dodd on his line.

The victory was the fourth in five games for the MetroStars (8-9) while dallas (10-9) has lost three of its last four.

The MetroStars' first goal came in the 35th minute after Burn defender Lawrence Lozzano fouled Savarese just outside the box.

Roberto Donadoni crossed his free kick from left to right where Nicola Caricola moved forward, leaped high between two Dallas defenders and headed the ball to the right of Dodd for his second goal of the season.

The MetroStars made it 2-0 just two minutes into the second half with Donadoni again setting the table.
