Volunteers of America has found land on which to place a new women's detoxification center.

A months-long search for property came to an end Wednesday - the deadline to avoid losing a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. If HUD and the city of Murray approve use of the land, 4159 S. 700 West, the center will open in about a year.

Each month, the Volunteers of America turns away about 90 women seeking help at its Salt Lake detox center. Director Jeff St. Romain said the new center will allow women to keep their children with them while they get detox services.
