L. R. Burr passed away July 9, 1996.

Born October 19, 1901 to Henry Uriah and Julia Caroline Beal Burr, in Burrville, Utah, the youngest of 13 children. Married his sweetheart, Connie Thursby, April 12, 1928 in Provo, Utah. They were married for 65 years.L.R. held several jobs in Provo as a young man, fruit farmer, jewelry salesman, waiter in two cafes, machinist helper at Irontron, worked at Pacific States Pipe Co., making soil cast iron pipe. Finally in 1927 he moved to Ephraim and courted Connie Thursby and opened a Cheverolet dealership, known as "Burr Chevrolet". He operated that dealership until retirement. He built the family home at 40 West 1st No. in Ephraim and presided there for his entire life. During the war when the automobile business was slow he worked for the government.

In the fall of 1954, he was elected Mayor of Ephraim and made many improvements to the city, including a new indoor swimming pool, an electric street lighting project known as the "white way" north on Main. Also new concrete sidewalks and curb and gutter, and a culinary water well was drilled. All these things and many more were accomplished on the lowest city budget in city history. After his retirement, he obtained a position with the State of Utah working as the building inspector and supervisor of construction at Snow College. He was honored by Snow College for his distinguished service. He was always a booster and supporter of Snow College.

Dad was always active in political affairs. Both in participation and reading current events, always keeping updated, he was always a civic leader. Dad was a member of the Ephraim Lions Club and past president. He was a member of the LDS Church.

Dad's life was dedicated to providing for his family, so we would never have to go without. He always wanted the best for us, he loved and protected his family. Dad's automobiles were his pride and joy, he always had them in top shape, and clean and sparkling. Dad's home and yard were always a showplace, reflecting his great pride for all to see. Dad's mind was clear and keen right up to his last days.
