Whether her hair is long or short, any woman who is active in the summer wants a cool and relatively carefree hairdo. Here are ideas from three of New York's top hair professionals.
For short hair, Andre Tavernese of the Spot, 521 Madison Ave., sees a new proportion that is short on top and at the sides, longer in back but cut close to the nape.Frederic Fekkai likes short hair layered and wispy, with the nape uneven, a style reminiscent of Jean Seberg's boyish crop. "It shouldn't look designed or plastered or severe," said Fekkai, who is moving his salon in August to New York's new Chanel building.
To give long hair a lift, Louis Licari, whose salon is at 797 Madison Avenue, suggests sweeping it up and away from the face, dividing it into two sections and knotting them together, then anchoring with a barrette. For fun, he likes to highlight just the ends of the hair.
