During its July 9 meeting, the City Council:
- Amended the city's animal control ordinance, increasing the penalty for animal cruelty. The change was needed to bring the city's law into compliance with alterations in state law made by the Legislature.

- Reduced the rear-yard setback requirement in phases five and six of the Willow Creek Canyon subdivision from 30 feet to 20 feet to accommodate utility easements.
- Approved an interlocal agreement authorizing Salt Lake County to administer the city's Community Development Block Grant housing rehabilitation program through 1997.
- Appointed council members to serve on 25 citizens' committees, boards and commissions.
Taylorsville
The City Council on Wednesday accepted a low bid of 4.65 percent from First Security Bank for $2.1 million in tax and revenue anticipation notes the new city plans to issue to help it get over the fiscal hump until revenues from tax collections, fees and other sources begin to accumulate.
The city will close on the notes next Tuesday, said Mayor LaVelle Prince.
In other matters, the council voted unanimously to rename 6200 South Street as Bennion Boulevard. Before incorporation, Taylorsville was known as the Taylorsville-Bennion community, and city leaders renamed the street in order to preserve the Bennion name.
The council's next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31.
