Lawrence W. Sardoni, 85, former professor of violin and conductor of orchestral and other groups at Brigham Young University, died July 7, 1996, at his daughter's home in Lindon, Utah County, after a long illness.
He was born in Salt Lake City, graduated from Davis High School and from BYU where he received bachelor's and master's degrees in music.Mr. Sardoni taught in the public schools in Fountain Green, San-pete County, and was chairman of the Mesa College music department in Grand Junction, Colo., where he organized and was conductor of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra.
During World War II, he served in the Navy, later joining the BYU music faculty in 1945. He served there for 30 years. Under his leadership, the BYU Symphony appeared in most of the major cities of the western United States.
In addition, he was visiting professor at several universities and guest conductor of many orchestras. For two years he was conductor of the Utah Valley Symphony.
He was a bishop of the Provo 12th Ward, a stake high councilor, president of a Spanish Branch at the Missionary Training Center and an ordinance worker and sealer in the Provo Temple. For 15 years he worked in the Spanish extraction program, and he and his wife, Ilene, served in the Peru Arequipa Mission.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Provo 12th-13th Ward chapel, 945 E. 700 North, Provo. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Berg Mortuary, 185 E. Center, Provo, and at the church one hour before services Saturday. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Provo.
