Our sweet and loving Mom and Grandma, Verland Fowler Beck, died peacefully at her home early Thursday, July 11, 1996 at age of 81. She and Dad are dancing once again.
Born in Lehi to Niron and Gladys Varney Fowler on Oct. 10, 1914. Married August 24, 1934 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to her sweetheart, Bertrand Beck. Dad preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1983. An active member of the LDS Church, Mom loved her calling as a Provo Temple worker and served our Father-in-Heaven faithfully in the church auxiliaries. Worked at the Utah State Training School for 10 years where she developed special relationships with the children. Loved to bake cookies, sew, quilt, and care for her rose garden. She appreciated her neighbors and was a good friend. Her greatest loves were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved to go to Grandma's house and play in her toy cupboard. She and Dad leave all of us a legacy of love, service, and sacrifice.Survived by three sons and one daughter: Jerry and Maurine Beck, Michael and Jan Beck, Lehi; Merrill Beck, Oahu, Hawaii; Lee and Barbara Carlton, Sandy; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Clista Holdaway, Vineyard. Preceded in death by her only sister, Jean Christofferson and her husband, Grant.
Funeral Monday, July 15, 1996 at 11 a.m. in the Wing Mortuary Chapel, 118 E. Main, Lehi, where friends may call Sunday, 6-8 p.m. and Monday 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Lehi City Cemetery.
