Did you know that Elton John was in the midst of writing a modern-day version of Verdi's "Aida" opera so that the folks at Disney could stage the darn thing on Broadway? Neither did we, but here's word in the New York Daily News that Elton is in fact engaged in such a project and that he has already run into some difficulties with the Disneyites. Specifically, it says he got into a yelling match with some of them because they wanted to cut one of his songs.
"Not having written musicals before," an unnamed insider observes philosophically, "Elton may not understand that some songs need to be cut for dramatic purposes." And then, too, Elton is such a dunce.
