Tim Robbins' "Dead Man Walking" has earned him more accolades from his peers.
The death penalty drama was honored Thursday in Universal City, Calif., with the Humanitas Prize, an award given to movies and TV shows communicating positive human values.Robbins, who directed the movie about a nun's counseling of a death-row inmate, won $25,000. The judges cited the film's "unflinching look at the horrendous consequences of murder whether carried out by an individual or the state."
In his acceptance speech, Robbins urged fellow writers and producers to promote "compassion and righteousness."
The annual awards are presented by the Human Family Educational & Cultural Institute.
The 1995 film was nominated for four Academy Awards. Susan Sarandon received the best actress Oscar for her portrayal of Sister Helen Prejean.
