"The End" is first - first in a major radio ratings category, that is.
KSFI (alias "FM-100") remains the most-listened-to radio station for adults and the all-ages general, 12-plus category, but KENZ (alias "The End," FM-107.5) surpassed KRSP as the top choice for young adult listeners, ages 18-34."The End," which just started broadcasting on Jan. 1, had an 8.2 percent audience share, according to an "Arbitrends" report by the Arbitron ratings service for the months of March, April and May. KRSP was second at 8 percent.
With a rock alternative format, KENZ has displayed steady growth since it went on the air, targeting older alternative listeners than those KXRK shoots for.
For all ages 12-plus, KENZ is in 11th place with a 3.7 percent share, while KSFI is first at 9.2 percent.
KSFI went up, according to the Arbitrends report. KUBL, KISN-FM, KKAT, KSL, KBZN, KENZ, KZHT, KCNR and KQMB all increased their ratings during this survey period among the adult, 25-54 audience. KRSP, KODJ, KSOP, KBEE, KBER, KXRK, KUTQ, KBKK all dropped. Other stations held steady.
Among the young adult, 18-34 audience, KENZ, KSFI, KXRK, KZHT, KBZN and KCNR all gained. KRSP, KUBL, KBEE, KSOP, KISN-FM, KUTQ, KISN-AM, KODJ, KSL and KALL all fell.

- AWARD NOMINATIONS - Three Utah radio stations were honored in a recent national competition that judged commercials made by radio stations, advertising agencies and production companies.
- KXRK was awarded both national finalist and national finalist runnerup recognition in the Silver Microphone Awards for its XMart and Cream O'Weber commercials.
The XMart ads were written and produced by Billy Mikelson and Todd Nuke'em. The Cream O'Weber ads were written by Mario Hieb and produced by Nuke'em.
- Kevin Stanfield of KALL (AM-910) and KODJ (FM-94.1) personality Angel Deville were named as national finalists in the Silver Microphone Awards competition.
The two produced parody songs about Enid and Joe Waldholtz last fall, and their creation was honored in the "Best Use of Humor" category.
Stanfield was the copywriter and Deville produced the music for the songs. The songs, one titled "The Ballad of Joe and Enid" (to the tune of the Beatles' "The Ballad of John and Yoko") and the other"Runaway Joe" (to the tune of Dion & the Belmonts' "Runaround Sue") aired on KALL last November.
Sister stations KALL and KODJ are owned by Regent Communications of Salt Lake City.

Tom Barberi of KALL talked about gun control issues Monday . . . Todd Herman on KCNR asked listeners Monday if nudity was OK for some places. He also asked them if they do anything nude around the house. On Tuesday, Herman provided more controversial "Southern News" . . .
The "Puzzler" for "Kidd Cassidy" on KKAT Monday explained that only 1 percent of Americans can put their big toe in their mouth . . . Tom Bock on KBZN discussed the weekend's top movies Monday . . . "Fisher, Todd and Erin" on KISN-FM accepted more outrageous tales from listeners Tuesday, and Erica beat Dean in "Battle of the Sexes." The DJs also gave away "Dream Team" game tickets . . .
"The Wakeup Club" on KBEE Monday did a spoof on a new upcoming movie possibility - "Codependence Day," in which aliens don't want to hurt you, they want to be with you and follow you everywhere . . . KUBL's Dan Bammes is on vacation this week; Greg Thomas is filling in for him with Jon Carter . . .
Jimmy Chunga on KENZ plays at least three songs in a row in the morning. The DJ is organizing a bowling tournament for his listeners . . . KSOP will present the Mavericks with Junior Brown in concert Aug. 21 in the Dee Events Center. Tickets go on sale July 14.
