A convicted forger and thief who escaped from the Utah State Prison was recaptured early Friday.
Freddy Lee Wolfe, 33, was walking in front of the Timp Inn Motel in Lehi when Department of Correction officers arrested him about 4:30 a.m. He was wearing a polka-dot shirt, prison-issue denims and shoes.Officers approached him and asked for identification. He gave them the last name of "Maybry," one of his known aliases. Wolfe was scheduled to be paroled next month but now faces a sentence of one to 15 years if convicted of escape.
He apparently scaled a fence about 12:30 p.m. Thursday while working in a meat processing plant at the Draper prison, said Utah Department of Corrections spokesman Jesse Gallegos.
The supervising officer had left the area to check on inmates working in the dairy area when Wolfe was discovered missing about an hour later, Gallegos said.
A helicopter and canine units were called out to assist in the search. Spokesman Jack Ford said officers began looking in Utah County because Wolfe's wife lives in the area. They also received two reports from grocery stores about a man fitting the description of the escaped convict.
Wolfe had been in prison for about three years on two, zero-to-five-year sentences for forgery and possession of stolen property. His parole date was set for Aug. 27.
