Dorene C. Kenny, age 69, after a short but valiant fight with cancer, died peacefully July 6, 1996, in the company of loved ones at a local hospital.

Born July 21, 1926, in Ogden, Utah, to Marion La Mont and Eva Norman Christensen. Married John M. Kenny and later divorced.She graduated form East High School and went to the University of Utah where she graduated from the College of Nursing. She worked for many years at the V.A. Hospital as a psychiatric nurse and substance abuse counselor. Seeing progress in her patients brought her great joy, and her enthusiasm made her a favorite with them.

She devoted herself to raising her children, often sacrificing her needs so theirs could be met. She always maintained a steady, noble course throughout her life. She enjoyed reading, traveling to new places, and only months ago was parasailing in Mexico. She also loved the constant companionship of her dog, "Cassie".

She is survived by one son, Richard of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Terry Hardman of Salt Lake City, and Susan Slager of Manassas, Va.; two brothers, Gerald La Mont Christensen of San Diego, and George Norman (Judy) Christensen of Fairfax Station, Va.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 So. 1700 East. In lieu of flowers, Dorene requested contributions be sent to the "Make-A-Wish Foundation", 2091 East 4800 South, SLC, Ut 84117.
