A Jacksonville, Fla., man shot at two youths at a local motel Saturday afternoon because where he comes from, he said, their gestures toward him would mean imminent death.

The youths were making gestures at the man at Zion Lodge, 1729 S. State, but they did not display any weapons, according to police. The nature of their gestures was not known. The man said he was afraid for his life and thought he would be killed if he didn't shoot first."Those boys that I shot at, I thought they were going to shoot me," he said.

The man fired a gun at the youths but missed. Police arrested him for aggravated assault and arrested his girlfriend for obstruction of justice.
