Damage from a Friday evening apartment blaze in the Cottonwood Heights area that gutted three units and left as many families without homes is now estimated at more than $360,000.

The two-alarm fire brought more than 50 firefighters to the Pinnacale Highland complex, 7673 S. Highland Drive, just after 7 p.m. Friday.Investigators had thought a small barbecue unit on a second-floor apartment was the cause of the fire but now believe a small briquette-type barbecue on the first floor actually caused the fire, said Salt Lake County Fire Capt. Frank Dalton.

There were no injuries and Pinnacle management officials were able to temporarily relocate the three families within the 500-plus complex, Dalton said. Officials from the Red Cross were also helping get furnishings.
