Seven teachers from Utah have received 1996 Excellence in Teaching Awards from the Brigham Young University Alumni Association.
Recipients are Margaret W. Obray and Edwin H. Jenson from Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum, Cache County; Susan N. Hogan, nominated by students from her former high school in Roy but who now teaches at Fremont High School in Plain City, Weber County; Scott Fife and James M. Mullen from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Cache County; and James R. Walker and Loren T. Johnson from Kearns High School in Kearns. They were among 10 teachers chosen from across the United States. Their students believe they were among the teachers who have had the greatest impact on the students' high school studies and who best prepared them for college.
The association, in con-junc-tion with the 1996 Student Alumni Board, selects high schools from across the country that have at least 20 former students currently attending BYU. Utah high schools selected have at least 30 former BYU students.
The association then sends ballots to the former students who now attend BYU, asking them to name the three high school teachers, in preferential order, who had the greatest impact on their education.
