Police are questioning a suspect in connection with a rash of vandalism at LDS chapels.
No arrests have been made yet, but police have identified a suspect who may have been involved in three separate vandalism incidents last week, a police spokesman said.Two LDS ward buildings were burglarized and vandalized in the early morning hours of July 1. Damage at one building, located at 255 E. 500 South, are estimated at $4,500.
The vandals reportedly gained entry to the building by breaking through a glass door. Computers and other office equipment were smashed and thrown on the floor, police say.
The same day, a church at 455 E. 200 South was vandalized. About $1,000 worth of office equipment was destroyed, and fire extinguishers were sprayed in several rooms.
An original oil painting depicting the grove of trees for which Pleasant Grove was named was also damaged, police say. The cost of restoring the painting is estimated at $900.
A church at 475 N. 700 East was vandalized July 4, police say. Vandals there broke windows, doors and computers, causing about $800 in damage.
