"Old soldiers never die, they just fade away."

On July 6, 1996, as befitting an old soldier, Gerard Joseph Gaumond, a disabled veteran of the Korean Conflict faded away to a better place. He received the Purple Heart and many other medals.

Jerry was born April 26, 1928 in Torrington, Conn. He was the son of Edmond Gaumond and Anna Hewitt. Member of the LDS Church. Retired from Salt Lake Community College after 21 years.

Jerry belonged to his in-law family almost more than his natural one. While sometimes we were exasperated with him and even mad at him, he was an integral part of our lives and we all loved him. Jerry married Patricia Kadleck, an Army nurse, at Walter Reed Hospital.

Besides his wife, Pat, Jerry is survived by six children; Joseph, Jr. (Dotty), Edmond (Jennifer), Susan Green, Raymond (Brenda), Michael (Deanna), Nancy Brewster (Richard), 13 grandchildren; Edmond D. (Nora), Crystal, Brian, Cory, John, Justin, Kevin, Ricky, Jennifer, Brandon, Jessica, Michael, and Matthew, twin great-grandsons; Adam and Eddie. There are nine brothers and sisters-in-law along with his sister, Yvette and two stepbrothers, Leon and Franscois, plus many, many nieces and nephews who will miss Jerry. Au revoir.

Funeral services will be held at the Salt Lake 26th Ward, 500 South 1100 West, July 11, 1996, 10 a.m. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and from 8:45-9:45 a.m., Thursday prior to services at the Ward. Interment, Taylorsville Cemetery.
