Volunteers interested in assisting individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds are needed as teachers' assistants and tutors for the English as a Second Language program. Volunteers are especially needed during the summer months because university students are unavailable.

"Volunteers provide additional one-on-one help and motivation to the students," said Guy Berryessa, ESL director.ESL classes are held Monday through Thursday at 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Dixon Middle School in Provo. Volunteers will work one-on-one with students and assist teachers with lessons and activities such as reading, writing and vocabulary.

Volunteers will also have the opportunity to learn about a variety of cultures by interacting with students.

Volunteers 18 years and older should be able to commit to one or more classes each week. Training and materials will be available for all volunteers.

Foreign language training is helpful but is not a requirement, Berryessa said.
