Women can learn the tactics of self-defense in Brigham Young University's Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) course, beginning fall semester 1996.

The course, for women only, is fully accredited and will provide university credit as a physical education class (.5 credits). There will be a $6-$8 fee for the course. The RAD system, although not a martial arts program, teaches self-defense tactics and techniques. The five certified RAD instructors, who are members of BYU's police force, will stress awareness, prevention, risk reduction, avoidance and hands-on defense training.

The course also offers a comprehensive reference manual, a litigation defense policy and a lifetime membership policy. Any student of the class is welcome to return and practice at any time.
