Fire officials are still trying to determine what caused toxic fumes in a Millcreek apartment Friday that sent six deputies to the hospital and forced the evacuation of 12 families.

Three deputies responded to a family fight at a unit in the Sunnyvale Apartments, 3940 S. 740 West, about 8:30 p.m. when they were reportedly overcome by a white vapor cloud. In all, six deputies and two residents were treated at local hospitals for inhaling toxic fumes. They were released later.

Fire crews found 73 different chemicals in the apartment. A hazardous materials crew was later enlisted, but the chemicals have still not been identified.

Officials said the chemicals could be used for a drug lab, but investigators had not reached any conclusions.

Fumes also forced the overnight evacuation of more than three dozen people living in the complex.
