Loving husband, father and grandfather, Leon Winfred Madsen, age 81, of Orem, Utah, passed away Saturday, August 17, 1996.
He was born December 9, 1914, in Ephraim, Utah, a son of Daniel Fredrick and Mary Annie Rasmussen Madsen. He married Zella Louise Francom May 1, 1939, in the Manti LDS Temple.Leon was educated in Ephraim schools and attended Snow College. He retired from Geneva Steel in 1978 after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Orem Lions Club for over 20 years and held most offices including president. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions including two stake missions and in several bishoprics.
Survivors include his wife, Zella, of Orem; three daughters and two sons: Lois and Joseph Beecroft, Salt Lake City; Richard and Kathy Madsen, Elko, Nev.; Dr. Dennis and Karen Madsen, Orem; Marilyn Belka and Connie Dunlavy, both of Sandy, Utah; 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers: Gertrude, Arta Briggs, Verna Larsen, Hasting, Leslie, Newell and Ray Madsen. His sister, Eudora Nielsen, passed away the same day as Leon.
Services will be Wednesday, August 21, 1996, 12 noon, in the Sharon Third Ward Chapel, 455 South 700 East, Orem. Friends may call at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 600 East 800 North, Orem, on Tuesday from 6-8:00 p.m. or at the church Wednesday, 10:45-11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
