Small-business assistance programs offered by Ogden City and the Small Business Administration will help economically revitalize the city's enterprise community.

A meeting in the Marshall White Community Center brought together Ogden's economic development leaders and the community to discuss ways the city already is providing assistance to underserved neighborhoods. The event was sponsored by Mayor Glenn J. Mecham with help from the SBA, Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce; The Weber Capital Development Corporation of Ogden; the Small Business Development Center at Weber State University; Service Corps of Retired Executives; Marshall White Community Center; Wasatch Venture Fund; and First Security Business Investment Corp.

Thomas J. Redder, SBA regional administrator, said, "The Clinton administration's Empowerment Zone/Enterprise Community Initiative, the key element in his community redevelopment strategy, will help focus on how SBA is working with Ogden's public and private resources to spur small business development in the city's economically underserved neighborhoods."

"The federal government, working across agency lines in a new partnership with state and federal governments and the private sector, will provide 105 communities with the tools and the flexibility they need to rebuild their neighborhoods," Redder said.
