J.B. "Bruce" Burton, 97, Idaho Falls resident, died August 17,1996 at Good Samaritan Care Center, of causes incident to age.
He was born January 30, 1899 at Grace, Idaho, to Frederick and Mary Donal Bruce Burton. He grew up and attended school in Grace. He worked doing farm labor while there.He married Ermer Michelsen on May 8, 1917. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They lived in Ogden, Utah, where he worked at a chicken hatchery and the Utah Industrial School as a security guard. They moved to Driggs, Idaho, where they lived for several years. In 1947, they moved to Idaho Falls, where Bruce worked for Idaho Potato Growers for 10 years. He later purchased the Rainbow Cafe and operated it until his retirement, when he sold the cafe. He was industrious and didn't want to "just sit around" after retiring so he began painting houses. During the winter he would work at the Taylor Mountain Ski area, then for Kelly Canyon Ski area, always making sure everything was in good working order and safe.
His wife passed away June 21, 1984 in Idaho Falls.
They enjoyed hitching their trailer to the car and traveling. Bruce would photograph the places they visited. They loved to take family and friends along with them.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held several position in his lifetime.
Bruce was a quiet, friendly man, who in his own quiet way, related to children. They seemed to like to simply hold his hand. His contribution in life was to make the world a better place wherever he went.
He is survived by nieces and nephews. His parents and siblings preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, 1996, at the Grace Cemetery in Grace, Idaho, under the direction of Coltrin Colonial Mortuary of Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends at Grace LDS Stake Center on Thurs., one hour prior to going to the cemetery.
