Mel Torme has canceled all his concert dates through September while he recovers from a stroke.

Torme, nicknamed "The Velvet Fog" for his smooth vocal delivery and writer of the classic "The Christmas Song," remained hospitalized in guarded condition Tuesday in Los Angeles, publicist Rob Wilcox said.Torme, 70, suffered a stroke Aug. 8 that caused slurred speech and weakness in his left side.
