The City Council put off discussion Tuesday night of the possible closure of two businesses that may face gambling charges.

The council was to have considered revoking the business licenses of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Pool Hall, according to the meeting agenda. But Mayor Lloyd Ash announced as the meeting started that the items would be pulled from the agenda. The council concurred. Ash said the matter will come up again, but the council did not set a hearing date. Some city leaders believed it was premature to talk about yanking the business licenses. None of the proprietors or officers in the businesses have been charged with any crime. Police seized gambling machines, cash and records from the Eagles Lodge and Pool Hall a few weeks ago.

Councilman Richard Paulsen wanted the issue on the agenda so the council could at least talk about when it is and isn't appropriate to revoke business licenses.
